Many political activists agree that a cure for HIV/AIDS will not come in the near future as long as finding a cure for it remains less profitable for large pharmaceutical corporations and special interest groups than the profits from the cost of treatment. While those special interest groups invest their bonuses and increase the sizes of their 401-k savings accounts, roughly 2,000 children a day become infected with HIV/AIDS through pregnancy, the birthing process, or from drinking infected breast milk. For many, the resources to access information or treatment are as out of reach as the costs themselves; infected mothers have no alternatives to passing the disease on to their infants. By 2010, when many retirees begin enjoying their profitable investments, 3,650,000 children under the age of five will be struggling to maintain their health through the next decade; the life expectancy of an infected, untreated person is eight to ten years. AIDS itself does not affect only the victims but entire communities. Currently, an estimated 15 million children under the age of 18 are orphaned and left to fend for themselves since one or both parents have died from the disease. In sub-Sahara Africa, it is estimated 50 million children will be living as orphans and more than one-third of the child population on the continent will have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Without a cure or preventive and affordable treatment, the health of the global economy will suffer if we, as a generation, do not take a proactive stance to fend off this predictably gloomy future. Tears of Hope is a non-profit foundation that places a high value on human life. We believe children deserve the education and access to treatment to improve their chances of leading a normal life through adulthood. We provide administrative services in our effort to raise funds in developing and distributing culturally-sensitive educational materials to children who are affected with HIV/AIDS. Our goal is to provide this information as a tool to empower the younger generation to live healthier, more productive lives and prevent the spread of this disease. In five more years,45 million deaths globally will have resulted from this disease. Please join us to provide future generation’s with the knowledge to make informed decisions. Your sponsorship is tax-deductible and will help us develop and distribute this knowledge to our children giving them a chance to live and become the generation who finds a cure.
