HIV/AIDS is
killing millions of people all over the world and hundreds thousands
of people in the United States. This epidemic is transmitted many
different ways but the spread of the virus is preventable. Tears of
Hope Foundation is geared towards informing the coming generation,
so that this epidemic can be controlled.

In the United
States, an estimated 800,000 to 900,000 people are currently living
with HIV/AIDS, and approximately 40,000 new infections occur every
year. *

In 2005, in the
50 states and the District of Columbia, adult and adolescent AIDS
cases totaled 44,140, with 32,430 cases in males, 11,710 cases in
females and 58 cases estimated in children under the age of 13. *

Nationwide
through 2005, 249,950 reported HIV cases; this is not including the
estimated 24-27% of persons undiagnosed and/or unaware of their HIV
infection. *

In California as
of 2005, 118 new AIDS cases were diagnosed. **

From the
beginning of the epidemic through 2005, cumulative cases in
California reported in adults and adolescents totaled 138,361 cases,
and an additional 658 cases reported in children less than 13. **

The amount of
reportedly positive HIV cases has increased by 40% in the last 7
years.
